Mr. Brannan has over 23 years of experience in representing both individual and institutional investors, broker dealers and registered representatives in securities arbitrations and litigation throughout the United States. He also has experience in representing individuals and businesses in a wide variety of civil litigation matters. His practice is focused on securities arbitration, securities litigation, elder law, and business and commercial litigation.

Over the years, Mr. Brannan has recovered or been instrumental in recovering millions of dollars on behalf of aggrieved investors. These recoveries were achieved through arbitration awards and negotiated settlements. For example, most recently, Mr. Brannan achieved a substantial recovery against a major brokerage firm on behalf of an investor, even though: (i) the investor had maintained accounts with the firm for over 12 years; (ii) the investor was actively involved in the selection and review of the investments; (iii) the accounts had an overall gain in value over that time period; and (iv) the accounts were allocated 60% equities and 40% bonds and cash, which was consistent with the investor’s moderate risk tolerance.

In addition to successfully representing individual and institutional investors in numerous arbitrations and court actions, Mr. Brannan has also:

  • Successfully represented broker dealers and registered representatives in intra-industry disputes, such as disputes between member firms and employment matters involving registered representatives;
  • Successfully represented registered representatives and investment adviser representatives in disputes with brokerage and advisory firms involving various employment matters, including up-front bonuses, promissory notes, restrictive covenants, and other issues that often arise in connection with termination and/or association with broker dealers and investment advisory firms; and
  • Successfully represented victims of elder financial abuse.

Mr. Brannan is admitted to practice and has appeared and argued before Georgia Courts, including the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, as well as various state and superior courts throughout Georgia. He is also admitted to practice and has appeared before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Brannan is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association (“PIABA”). He is the author of “Trends in Elder Abuse Law,” 20 PIABA Bar J. 365 (2014) and “Arguments and Authorities Supporting the Viability of Holder Claims,” 13 PIABA Bar J. 47 (Summer 2006), also published in the 2007 edition of PLI Securities Arbitration.

Mr. Brannan received his Juris Doctor degree in 1990 from the Georgia State University College of Law. He served on the Editorial Board of the Georgia State University Law Review and received American Jurisprudence Awards in Business Associations and Criminal Procedure and an Outer Barristers Guild Award.

Mr. Brannan and his wife, Barbette, a school teacher, live in Sandy Springs, Georgia with their two children, and are members of the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia.
